Almond and date balls

These sweet treats are really delicious and they are low in fat and low in sugar. Such a nice and healthy treat when you feel like something sweet. They're also so easy to make. These are made using a mixture of dates and nuts and dried fruit as filling. I also tried these with crushed hazelnuts instead of almonds. Another variation I made is to make a marzipan filling which were really good however the sugar content will be much higher.

Almond date balls

250 gr dates
150gr crushed almonds
1/4 tsp cinnamon
150gr Chocolate, melted (for coating)
Crushed almonds (for rolling)

Filling

marzipan
raisins soaked in rum

Put the almonds in the food processor and process till they are coarsely chopped. Add the chopped dates and cinnamon and process till they start to clump together. Remove from bowl and using a piece of cling film press together to form a log. Cut a small piece from the log and insert a small marzipan ball in the middle and form a ball. When all the mixture is used, dip in chocolate and roll into crushed almonds.

I'm sending this recipe to http://dailytiffin.blogspot.com/ for this month's Monthly Mingle event.
and also to http://mykitchentreasures.blogspot.com/ for Home made Christmas gifts event. If you want to join just follow this link http://mykitchentreasures.blogspot.com/2008/11/announcing-home.html .
