This is a traditional Maltese recipe. These are usually baked during lent. The word
kwarezimal refers to
quaresima, literally the
quadragesima, the forty days of Lent. They are sort of spicy chewy biscuits. They combine a mixture of spices and ground almonds and then drizzled with honey and some chopped nuts. I think these are vegan too since there is no dairy products in them.:

I have used the same recipe from the book and they came out really really nice. But to me they lacked that chewy texture which I have grown used to, to I added a teaspoon of glucose in the next batch and they turned out just just perpect to my liking.
